Frequently Asked Questions (FAQS)

American Flyers in Morristown distinguishes itself by operating with a singular educational focus: they exclusively teach pilots. Unlike other local aviation operations in the Tri-State area that split their resources and attention with aircraft charter services, maintenance centers, or aircraft sales, American Flyers dedicates 100% of its aircraft, instructors, and facility assets to pilot certification and ground school.

Serving the greater New York City and New Jersey metropolitan areas, the training facility is located directly on the field at the Morristown Municipal Airport. The official physical address is 50 Airport Road, Suite 120, Morristown, NJ 07960. Prospective students can contact the Morristown campus administrative team directly at 973-267-3223.

The Morristown center is a comprehensive training facility that supports pilots at all experience levels. Its primary course tracks include:

  • Personal Training: Private Pilot Certificate, Instrument Rating, and introductory flights.
  • Career Training: Commercial Pilot Certificate, Certified Flight Instructor (CFI), Certified Flight Instructor – Instrument (CFII), and the 9-month Airline Academy.
  • Accelerated Programs: Specialized “Finish-Up” courses designed for pilots looking to quickly complete an interrupted rating, as well as intensive in-person written exam preparation courses.

Operating out of Morristown Municipal Airport offers distinct structural advantages for flight students. Because of its close proximity to the New York City metro area, students learn to navigate some of the busiest, most complex airspace in the world under the guidance of MMU’s air traffic control tower. Additionally, the airport features 24/7 staffing by Airport Operations and Aircraft Fire Rescue, providing an exceptionally safe and professionally managed environment for primary and advanced flight instruction.

Yes. In alignment with American Flyers’ national curriculum standards, the Morristown campus functions as a full-service training center equipped with Frasca FAA-approved Advanced Aviation Training Devices (AATDs). These simulators allow students serving the New York metro area to master complex instrument profiles, cockpit resource management (CRM), and aircraft checklists in a controlled ground environment, significantly reducing overall aircraft rental expenses and training hours.

Yes. As a core corporate campus, flight instructors operating in the Northeast can use the Morristown facility to seamlessly sync with the American Flyers “FIRC for Life” program. While the online portal allows flight instructors to renew their certificates every two years for the rest of their careers following a one-time fee, the Morristown campus provides regional instructors with direct access to local staff and Airman Certification Representatives (ACRs) to help oversee, validate, and process required FAA certification renewals.
