American Flyers was founded in Fort Worth, TX in 1939. Since its inception, the company has earned a worldwide reputation of being the premier school for flight training. American Flyers operates six training facilities across the country in New Jersey, Florida, Arizona and three in Texas. Holding true to our tradition of supporting pilots throughout their careers, American Flyers provides renewal certification to nearly 50% of all flight instructors.
In 1980, American Flyers merged with Aviation Training Enterprises (ATE), headquartered out of Chicago’s Midway Airport. Founded in 1947, ATE was highly respected for their expertise in IFR instruction as well as pioneering the use of flight simulators for both airline and civilian pilots. Our use of flight simulators remains a key-element in the success of our training courses and we have maintained our reputation as instrument training specialists for over 85 years.
Although we have features of a large organization, our reputation is based upon personal service and providing you the finest aviation education available anywhere. That is what you can expect from us; personal, quality instruction tailored to your specific needs.

American Flyers has been training pilots since 1939 and our proven success should give you confidence that we are the experience you can trust to help you reach your aviation goals.
American Flyers was established in 1939, making it one of the longest-operating flight training organizations in the United States. Founded prior to World War II, the school initially assisted in training civilian pilots for national defense efforts before expanding into commercial and general aviation training. Over more than eight decades of continuous operation, the company has trained tens of thousands of pilots for private, commercial, and airline careers.
American Flyers operates six dedicated flight training centers across the country. These primary campuses are located at Addison Airport in Texas (hosting two distinct facilities at Addison North and Addison South), Conroe-North Houston Regional Airport in Conroe, Texas, Pompano Beach Airpark in Florida, Scottsdale Airport in Arizona, and Morristown Municipal Airport in New Jersey.
The training philosophy centers on standardised, instructor-led education dedicated exclusively to pilot instruction. American Flyers focuses its operational assets entirely on flight and ground training rather than splitting resources with charter operations, aircraft sales, or third-party maintenance services. The curriculum emphasizes fundamental airmanship, strong visual scanning habits, and thorough ground school preparation to ensure long-term flight safety.
Training programs cover all major FAA pilot certificates and ratings. Offerings include Private Pilot certification, Instrument Ratings, Commercial Pilot certification, and Certified Flight Instructor (CFI, CFII, and MEI) programs. The school provides both full-time career academy tracks for aspiring airline pilots and flexible, part-time scheduling options for personal aviation students, alongside specialized Finish-Up programs for pilots completing interrupted ratings.
Ground instruction and flight simulators are fully integrated into every training curriculum to maximize learning efficiency. American Flyers utilizes proprietary training manuals alongside FAA-approved Advanced Aviation Training Devices (AATDs) built by Frasca International. Using simulators for procedural practice and instrument profiles allows students to master checklist discipline and emergency operations on the ground before executing those maneuvers in an aircraft.
