The Young Eagles program at American Flyers offers future pilots between ages 13 and 17 a structured head start on their aviation education. Students build a strong foundation through ground school instruction, simulator practice, and actual flight experience.
Participants meet on the second Saturday of each month, rain or shine, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Morning sessions consist of three hours of classroom instruction and one hour of dual simulator training alongside American Flyers instructors. Following this instruction, students can choose to fly in one of our training aircraft to apply their new skills in the air.
Partnerships with local aviation organizations, including local EAA chapters, help support our students as they discover career paths and recreational opportunities in general aviation.
Student pilots progress at different rates, and individual training timelines naturally vary. American Flyers utilizes a “Learn in the Simulator, Practice in the Air” approach to maximize efficiency and control student costs.
Simulators provide a quiet, controlled environment that improves skill retention and accelerates procedural mastery. If specific maneuvers or procedures require extra review, students are encouraged to use their unlimited solo simulator time. Practicing systematically in the simulator helps students refine their control inputs, master instrument scans, and keep total flight hours close to their targeted budget.
