Tell us a little about yourself.

My name is Taylor Brooks. I am a 22-year-old Southwest Airlines flight attendant and instrument-rated pilot. I currently attend American Flyers out of Conroe.

How did you get into flying?

I got into the world of aviation because of my family. I am a third-generation Southwest Airlines employee and currently the seventh flight attendant in my family. I always knew aviation was my life plan, but meeting different pilots when I traveled with my family had me wanting my future to be on the flight deck.

Tell us how you went about choosing a flight school.

I toured nearly 10 different schools during the process of choosing a flight school. I wanted to see the people and the environments, while also getting a look at the different fleets and simulators.

What made you choose American Flyers?

I chose American Flyers mainly because of the wonderful people I met during my tour. The environment was very positive and encouraging. The amazing fleet of planes, great maintenance, and scheduling were also all major bonuses.

How much outside studying did you have to put in during your time with AF?

Flying is very hands-on learning, but I have to say I have done a decent amount of studying while at American Flyers. It is definitely different from how I studied in college because it’s way more enjoyable to study something and be able to apply it hands-on the next day.

What is your most memorable moment at American Flyers?

Thus far, my most memorable moment at AF is when I earned my private pilot license. Getting to ring the bell for the first time and everyone celebrating me is something I will never forget.

Looking back, what advice would you give someone interested in starting pilot training?

My biggest piece of advice would be to not let the length of the journey ahead scare you. Time goes by so quickly and you will miss all the moments you have along the way.

What’s next for you?

I am currently working on finishing my commercial, and then I plan to get my CFI/CFII. I hope to follow in my amazing instructors’ footsteps and be able to teach new pilots!

If you could fly anywhere, go to any flying destination, where would it be?

I would love to fly to Velana International Airport in the Maldives. The airport is on a small island and the approach is absolutely gorgeous!
