Brooke Zimny

From:
St. Charles, Illinois

I’m currently working toward my airline transport license, with hopes of flying for American Airlines one day and inspiring others to chase their aviation dreams. Eventually, I’d also love to pursue my seaplane rating. One of my favorite parts of training new pilots is watching them light up after their first solo or checkride. I love working for American Flyers because I’m surrounded by passionate, dedicated students who I get to help grow into confident, professional aviators.

From:
Houston, Texas

My ultimate goal in aviation is to fly wide-body international routes for a legacy airline. I’m finishing up my high-performance endorsement and preparing to pursue my ATP this fall. The most rewarding part of training new pilots is seeing the moment when everything they’ve covered in ground school and simulators finally clicks in the airplane. What I enjoy most about working for American Flyers is the opportunity to build a lasting culture of safety and true PIC mentality. Unlike other schools where students may be rushed to meet minimum standards, we focus on creating confident, capable aviators.

Jason Alexis

From:
Chatham, New Jersey

My goal is to become an airline captain at Delta, and I’m currently working toward my rotorcraft license to expand my skills. What I love most about training new pilots is the unique challenge each student brings—their personalities, backgrounds, and learning styles make every experience rewarding. There’s nothing better than seeing a student hit their stride when the method clicks. Working at American Flyers has pushed me to grow in ways I never expected. I didn’t see myself as a teacher before, but instructing has revealed new skills and given me the privilege to be part of each pilot’s journey.

Having completed all my training at American Flyers, what really sets this school apart for me is its clear communication and strong structure. It’s a place where instruction genuinely feels caring. ’I’m about to start my multi-engine training, an important step toward becoming chief pilot here, at American Flyers, before eventually flying for UPS. I love teaching in the classroom and breaking down complex topics into simple, approachable ideas that help students succeed.

James Philips

From:
Iron River, Michigan

My goal in aviation is simple: never lose my love for flying, so it never feels like work. One of the highlights of training new pilots is seeing a Commercial student stick a power-off 180 in challenging winds—it never gets old. My favorite part of working at American Flyers is the team. We’ve built a culture where everyone looks out for one another and goes the extra mile for our students.

My goal is to become a private charter pilot and fly to exciting destinations worldwide. I’m currently working toward my tailwheel endorsement to help reach that dream. The most rewarding part of training new pilots is watching them grow from zero experience to confident, licensed aviators. It’s incredibly rewarding to be part of their transformation and to know you played a role in their success. At American Flyers, I’m surrounded by a passionate, supportive team that truly cares about aviation and student success.

Maura McCluskey

Building flight hours is my current focus as I work toward my dream of becoming an airline pilot for Southwest Airlines, where I hope to one day fly alongside my mom, a flight attendant. Watching new pilots bring together their hard work and training to reach their goals is my favorite part of the training process. I love being part of the American Flyers team because everyone here is genuinely supportive and committed to helping one another succeed.

Working for American Flyers has unlocked so many opportunities that have helped me grow into a better pilot, and I’m excited to keep pushing forward—the next certification I plan to earn is my ATP rating. One of my favorite parts of training new pilots is sharing my passion for flying while watching them accomplish every goal they set. Ultimately, my long-term goal in aviation is to retire from American Airlines.
