American Flyers Spotlight: Featured Instructors September 2024

Jim Eller – CFI at Scottsdale, AZ (SDL)

My favorite part of training new pilots is witnessing their breakthrough moments during their training when things just start to click for them. Seeing students gain understanding and confidence is a fun experience to share with them. I love being a part of the American Flyers team because of my peers. I could not ask for a better group of people to work with. My ultimate goals in aviation are to meet ATP minimum to one day fly commercially and to join the Phoenix Air National Guard.

Kelsey Purrington – CFI at Morristown, NJ (MMU)

My ultimate goal in aviation is to become an airline pilot and one day work for American Airlines. I love training new pilots and seeing their progress from day one through solo flights and check rides. Watching students learn and gain confidence in the cockpit is incredibly rewarding. The friendly and welcoming environment of American Flyers is definitely my favorite part of working here.

Kobe Neal – CFI at Addison, TX North (ADSN)

My favorite part of working with new pilots is guiding them through their learning journey, celebrating their achievements, and watching their confidence grow. Their fresh perspectives and eagerness to learn inspire me and remind me why I fell in love with flying in the first place. I’m excited to soon work toward my seaplane rating and be on the water. My ultimate goal is to pilot a jet aircraft, driven by my fascination with their complexity, speed, and precision. The culture at American Flyers is a highlight for me. The emphasis on safety, shared passion for aviation, and camaraderie create a supportive and inspiring environment, making every day here fulfilling and enjoyable.

William Kendrick – CFI at Addison, TX South (ADSS)

I am currently working toward my ground instructor certificate to help bring me closer to my goal of flying fast jets to new and exciting destinations. My favorite part of working for American Flyers is my coworkers, who feel more like family than just teammates. I love training new pilots because I enjoy being able to watch them develop their skills and grow over the course of their training. Their progress and achievements make every moment of this journey special.

Brock Shaw – CFI at Houston, TX (CXO)

I hope to one day fly around the world and experience everything aviation has to offer. I’m currently working toward my ATP and Multi-Engine rating to help bring me closer to this goal. My favorite part of working for American Flyers is being a part of an aviation family that provides exceptional training and genuinely cares about its students’ success. I love being a part of someone’s journey into aviation, so being able to train new pilots is amazing. Training new pilots is incredibly rewarding; seeing them achieve milestones and helping them realize their dreams makes all the hard work worthwhile.

Vince LaPorte – CFI at Pompano Beach, FL (PMP)

I have been a CFI at American Flyers for 7 months and I absolutely love it thanks to the great camaraderie with my coworkers. I truly appreciate American Flyers’ commitment to safety, which is evident in the condition of the school’s airplanes and the precautions it has in place. My favorite part of training new pilots is allowing them to learn and experience things through a hands-on approach. I always encourage my students to do their best and trust their abilities. I hope to one day fly corporate and then for a major airline like American Airlines or SouthWest.
