Financial Requirements

All applicants for M-1 visas must present evidence that they have immediately available to them funds or assurances of support necessary to pay all tuition and living costs for the entire period of intended stay.

Your tuition depost will be reflected on your I-20. Also shown on your I-20 will be an amount listed under “Personal Funds”. This amount is the sum of your tuition and living expenses less the tuition deposit. It is the amount of funds you must demonstrate to the consular officer and can be in various financial documents such as bank statements, investments, or grants and scholarships.

Additionally, consular officers are authorized, at their discretion, to require evidence of payment of round trip transportation in advance of the alien's travel to the United States.
